downtown interactive goose arch
The Downtown Interactive Goose Arch brings the calm of nature into the heart of Pembroke. This playful installation features four stacked, geometric geese painted on a large plywood panel, standing tall in the downtown core. At first glance, it’s a bold and stylized tribute to the region’s iconic Canada geese—but when viewed through a device, the piece transforms into an immersive augmented reality (AR) experience.
Through AR, the scene comes to life with gentle motion and sound. Tall grasses and cattails sway softly in the breeze, and the soundscape transports viewers to a peaceful day at the swamp—right in the middle of the city. Bugs drift past in quiet, mesmerizing patterns, their movement choreographed to complement the serene audio and visual rhythm of the piece. It’s a small pocket of nature you can carry in your phone, tucked unexpectedly between buildings and sidewalks.
This installation invites city-goers to pause, shift perspective, and experience the contrast between urban and natural environments. It uses simple materials and minimal shapes to create something layered and transportive—showing how public art and digital technology can work together to create moments of wonder in everyday places.
